Pioneers earn All-Academic Award while 308 student-athletes named to WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – For the 21st consecutive year, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Pioneers have received the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) All-Academic Award. The award is presented to member institutions where the 2020-21 academic year grade point average (GPA) of the student-athletes is equal to or greater than the GPA of the institution’s overall student body. The 21-year steak is the longest consecutive streak in the conference.

Pioneers' Orr looking to improve lives through engineering

Platteville, Wis.- University of Wisconsin-Platteville track and field record holder Gwen Orr enjoyed math and science in high school. After a little research, she found out that engineering would be a good fit and decided to attend UW-Platteville due to the positive reputation of the engineering program. Her next decision was to join the track team, but for a different reason.

UW-Platteville welcomes back fans

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-Platteville announced Monday (July 19) that home Pioneer athletic events will be at full capacity for the 2021 fall season. After nearly 18 months of empty or near-empty facilities, Pioneer Athletics is excited to welcome back fans following the recent campus approval.

Pioneers’ Jankiewicz takes hands on learning to internship

Platteville, Wis.-The University of Wisconsin-Platteville has seen a number of major construction projects in the past three years. Boebel Hall underwent a $23.7 million renovation and construction began last year on a new $55 million engineering building, Sesquicentennial Hall, which will add an additional 200,000 square feet to support engineering, computer science and other educational opportunities for students. These two construction projects followed a major addition to Williams Fieldhouse.

Navarro announces program restructures for upcoming seasons

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – University of Wisconsin-Platteville Director of Athletics and Recreation and Assistant Chancellor for Sports Administration Dr. Kristina Navarro announced Tuesday (June 29) the restructure of the Pioneer soccer, track and field and cross country programs which will be effective for the upcoming 2021-22 seasons. The changes seek a targeted approach on recruitment to feed UW-Platteville's enrollment and retention strategy.

Revamp of Sports Medicine and Performance seeks to advance opportunities for student-athletes

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – University of Wisconsin-Platteville Director of Athletics and Recreation and Assistant Chancellor for Sports Administration Dr. Kristina Navarro along with SWA and Director of Sports Medicine and Sports Performance Ryanne Breckenridge announced Monday (June 28) a formal restructure of the Department of Sports Medicine and Performance. The changes build on the mission of providing a transformational student-athlete experience and enhancing the Pioneers’ profile of competitive excellence.

Pioneers' Daehling balances two internships with eye on dream job

Platteville, Wis.- University of Wisconsin-Platteville upcoming senior Grace Daehling has always dreamed of working for her favorite soccer team Liverpool, of the English Premier League. The Sun Prairie, Wisconsin native and sprinter on the Pioneer women’s track team is getting first-hand experience working with a soccer club during one of her two summer internships, with an eye on someday working for Liverpool.

Veverka and Walechka become All-Americans in the discus

Greensboro, N.C. - Qualifying to the 2021 NCAA DIII Outdoor Track and Field Championships in of itself is a massive accomplishment. After seeing cancellations of the 2020 NCAA DIII indoor and outdoor track and field competitions, track and field athletes everywhere were ready to finish what they started. Competing for the Pioneers were Ben Veverka, Alexander Walechka, Justin Eichler, Katie Schilling, and Brianna Leahy.

Five Pioneers to compete at national track and field meet

Platteville, Wis.- The University of Wisconsin-Platteville track and field program will send five individuals to the 2021 NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships in Greensboro, North Carolina. The meet begins Thursday, May 27 and will finish Saturday, May 29.

Pioneer student-athletes coached outside of athletics

Platteville, Wis.- The University of Wisconsin-Platteville athletic department has earned the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference’s All-Academic award for the past two decades, making it the longest active streak in the conference. To earn the award, student-athletes must obtain a higher grade point average than the general student body. Pioneer student-athletes have excelled in the classroom, but they could not have done it without the resources the university offers.

Five Pioneers named All-WIAC in track and field

Platteville, Wis.- Five members of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville track and field teams were named to the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference all conference teams. Senior Alexander Walechka was a second team All-Conference performer, while senior Katie Schilling and junior Brianna Leahy were honorable mention. Jacob Rice and Kelli Schneider were named to the WIAC All-Sportsmanship Team.

Pioneers wrap up day two of WIAC Championships: Schilling, Leahy, Walechka receive All-Conference honors

River Falls, Wis. – Saturday, May 8, the Pioneers continued competition on day two of the WIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted at UW-River Falls. In team scores, the men and women’s team finished in seventh place with 50 and 45 points respectively. Placing among the top three in their events, receiving All-Conference honors are Katie Schilling, Brianna Leahy, and Alexander Walechka.

Orr breaks 200m school record on day 1 of WIAC Championships

River Falls, Wis. - The UW-Platteville track and field team, traveled to UW-River Falls to compete at the 2021 WIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Friday, May 7 was the first day of the two-day championship event.

Pioneers gearing up for stretch run

Platteville, Wis.- The University of Wisconsin-Platteville spring athletic teams are in the final stretch of their spring season. The Pioneer women’s golf team finished its season by finishing sixth at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship (presented by Culver’s). Junior Markie Ash was the top finisher for the Pioneers, with a three-day total of 247 to finish 13th. Ash was named to the WIAC All-Sportsmanship team.

Pioneers capitalize on final home track and field meet of the season

Platteville, Wis. - With one week to go until the WIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, UW-Platteville hosted the Border Battle on Friday, April 30. Several Pioneers seized the opportunity of the gorgeous spring day to improve on their season best times and marks. Teams in attendance included UW-Whitewater, UW-Stevens Point, UW-Oshkosh, and University of Dubuque.
