Five Pioneers named All-WIAC in track and field
Platteville, Wis.- Five members of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville track and field teams were named to the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference all conference teams. Senior Alexander Walechka was a second team All-Conference performer, while senior Katie Schilling and junior Brianna Leahy were honorable mention. Jacob Rice and Kelli Schneider were named to the WIAC All-Sportsmanship Team.

Jacob Rice and Kelli Schneider were named to the WIAC All-Sportsmanship Team.
Walechka finished second in the discus with a personal best toss of 53.33 meters (174' 11"). Walechka was the defending champion in the discus, winning the event in 2019. Walechka returned for his last year of eligibility after the 2020 season was cancelled. Walechka works full time in Spring Green, Wisconsin, and takes nine graduate credits while competing for the Pioneers.
Leahy is in her first year of competition for the Pioneer track and field program. She finished third in the shot put, throwing 14.31 meters (46' 11.5"). The school record holder in the shot put has the fourth ranked distance in the nation. Leahy started the first four games for the Pioneer women's basketball team before an injury forced her to miss the final five games.
Schilling set a school record in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:02.35. Schilling was the defending WIAC champion in the 400-meter hurdles, winning the event in 2019. Her time currently ranks sixth in the nation.
The Pioneers will have two weeks of last chance meets for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship in Greensboro, North Carolina, beginning on Thursday, May 27.
