Pioneer Athletics Statement on Commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is committing to improving diversity, equity and inclusion internal to our department.

We seek to improve our focus on these critical areas through deliberate educational programs, inclusive hiring practices, and intentional student recruitment efforts.

As a body of 16 sport programs, 45 staff and 500+ student-athletes, we are committed to serving as ambassadors for change throughout campus and our greater Platteville community.

Intentional Focus on Holistic and Inclusive Programs – Pioneer Leadership Institute

    • Monthly #SharpentheAxe staff development sessions
    • Development of the Pioneer Leadership Institute Advisory Committee and Coaches Council
  • Outcome: Student-Athlete Development
    • Monthly Rising Pioneer student-athlete development sessions
    • Intentional focus on PSAAC Leadership
      • Inclusive membership structure across 16 sport programs
      • Development of the Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion role that mobilizes our department wide subcommittee
  • Outcome: Campus partnerships
    • Explicit partnership with the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs (OMSA)
    • Explicit partnerships with the Division of Enrollment and Student Success (ESS)
    • Intentional Fall and Spring programming opportunities via the Pioneer Leadership Institute with Campus Counseling and Student Health Services (SHS)
