Orr breaks 200m school record on day 1 of WIAC Championships
River Falls, Wis. - The UW-Platteville track and field team, traveled to UW-River Falls to compete at the 2021 WIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Friday, May 7 was the first day of the two-day championship event.

Pioneer Women
Setting a school record in the 200m dash, Gwen Orr ran 25.03 seconds qualifying to the finals to be run on Saturday. Orr also ran a personal best in the 100m dash, breaking her own school record with a time of 12.31 seconds.
In the 800m, Kaitlyn Galgon advances to the finals to be run on Saturday. Galgon ran 2:18.13 and is coming into final with the fifth fastest time from preliminaries.
Katie Schilling and Jessica Buss advance to the finals of the 400m hurdles. Schilling ran just short of her school-record-holding time, clocking 1:02.68, and has the second fastest time from preliminaries. Buss ran 1:06.02, the sixth fastest time from preliminaries.
Casey Rielly and Kayla Lipsey ran in the 100m hurdles. Both ran personal best times; Rielly finished with a time of 15.51 seconds, and Lipsey ran 16.54 seconds. Rielly also competed in the pole vault. Rielly finished with a clearance of 3.33m (10-11) alongside teammates Autumn Montgomery and Jordan Meciej.
Running the 10,000m run, Samantha Meyer took 10th place with a personal best time of 39:49.08. Natalie Kreier also raced the 10,000m run, and finished in 42:07.03.
Kirstie Ramsey took 13th place in the 3,000m steeplechase, crossing the finish line in 12:28.14. Senior Lexi Richardson ran 14:18.13.
In the hammer throw, Paulina Wienke placed ninth with a personal best mark of 46.61m (156-2). In javelin, Grace Daehling threw a personal best of 24.00m (78-9).
Alexis Healey and Hannah Brooks finished long jump with marks of 5.04m (16-6.5) and 4.95m (16-3) respectively.
After day one of the heptathlon, Katheryn Holter sits in fifth place and Grace Elvert in sixth place. Holter ran 16.55 seconds in the 100m hurdles, high jumped 1.39m (4-6.75), threw 10.46m (34-4) in the shot put, and ran 26.87 seconds in the 200m dash. Elvert ran 16.36 seconds in the 100m hurdles, jumped 1.51m (4-11.5), threw 8.91m (29-2.75), and ran 27.86 seconds in the 200m. Day two will consist of the long jump, javelin, and 800m run.
Pioneer Men
Advancing onward to finals for the Pioneer men, Cade VanHout ran 10.84 seconds in the 100m dash and 22.02 seconds in the 200m dash. In the 110m hurdles, Cole Stugelmeyer and Charlie Gifford advance to finals with times of 15.27 and 15.28 respectively.
Sean Komro also advances in the 400m hurdles. Komro ran 57.80 seconds. Freshman Ryan Beckley placed 11th with a personal best time of 59.15 seconds. Noah Nouansacksy crossed the line in 1:00.57.
In the 400m dash, Jacob Downing ran for 15th place with a time of 50.57 seconds. In the 800m run, Jeffrey Smolinski and Tyler Doering ran 2:00.13 and 2:00.29 respectively. Zach Flisch finished in 2:03.42.
Riley Coulter and Davin Dahl competed in the 3,000m steeplechase. Coulter ran 10:08.41, and Dahl ran a personal best time of 10:19.37. In the 10,000m run, Caleb Christiansen took 12th place with a personal best time of 31:46.36.
Taking third place in the javelin throw, Jacob Rice threw 53.50m (175-6) and put 6 points on the board for the Pioneers. Zach Schell finished with a personal best throw of 40.13m (131-8), Jacob Erickson threw 39.17m (128-6), and Kyle VanDenBusch threw 34.50m (113-2).
In the hammer throw, Justin Eichler took third place throwing a personal best of 57.72m (189-4). Alexander Walechka finished in ninth place with a mark of 52.28m (173-7).
Adam Wildman placed 10th in the long jump, marking 6.60m (21-8). Owen Miller and Drew Stanioch jumped 6.45m (21-2) and 6.29m (20-7.75) respectively.
After the first day of the decathlon, Rice sits in second place with five events to go on Saturday. Rice ran 11.06 seconds in the 100m dash, jumped 6.51m(21-4.25) in the long jump, threw 10.55m (34-7.5) in shot put, high jumped 1.76m (5-9.25), and ran 52.19 in the 400m dash. Day two will include the 110m hurdles, discus throw, pole vault, javelin throw, and 1500m run.
