2021 UW-Platteville Baseball Headlines

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – For the second season in a row the University of Wiscsonsin-Platteville baseball program has earned the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award. The award honors college and high school teams coached by ABCA members that earn a cumulative grade point average over 3.0 for the academic year.

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – For the 21st consecutive year, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Pioneers have received the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) All-Academic Award. The award is presented to member institutions where the 2020-21 academic year grade point average (GPA) of the student-athletes is equal to or greater than the GPA of the institution’s overall student body. The 21-year steak is the longest consecutive streak in the conference.

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-Platteville announced Monday (July 19) that home Pioneer athletic events will be at full capacity for the 2021 fall season. After nearly 18 months of empty or near-empty facilities, Pioneer Athletics is excited to welcome back fans following the recent campus approval.

The changes build on the mission of providing a transformational student-athlete experience and enhancing the Pioneers’ profile of competitive excellence.

After a record breaking regular season, Kelso continues to add to his post-season honors. Platteville, Wis.- Junior Jonathan Kelso, of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville baseball program, had the greatest season in Pioneer history and was voted by the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference coaches as WIAC Position Player of the Year. Kelso led the WIAC in hits (69), batting average (.442), slugging percentage (.782), on-base percentage (.532), on-base-plus-slugging (1.314), and stolen bases (27). Kelso finished second in runs (55), total bases (122), doubles (18) and triples (4) and fourth in homeruns (9). He broke the school single season record for hits and total bases while recording the best batting average since Brian Potter hit .443 in 1996.

Platteville, Wis.- The University of Wisconsin-Platteville athletic department has earned the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference’s All-Academic award for the past two decades, making it the longest active streak in the conference. To earn the award, student-athletes must obtain a higher grade point average than the general student body. Pioneer student-athletes have excelled in the classroom, but they could not have done it without the resources the university offers.

Pioneers' 2021 campaign comes to a heartbreaking end at La Crosse.

Platteville, Wis.- The University of Wisconsin-Platteville’s baseball team (15-25, 8-20 WIAC) will travel to UW-La Crosse (29-11, 19-9 WIAC) for the opening round of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship (presented by Culver’s) on Wednesday, May 19. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Junior Jonathan Kelso set new University of Wisconsin-Platteville baseball records for both career hits and single season hits during the WIAC doubleheader against UW-Stevens Point at Kendall Murray Field. While the Pointers won with an 11-4 decision in game one and 6-2 victory in the nightcap, Kelso finished the day at 196 career hits with 68 hits this season. Ross Bennett (2005-08) previously held the career hits record with 195 while Ryan Levendoski set the previous season hits record of 64 in 2004.
