Leahy breaks outdoor shot put school record
Rock Island, Ill. – On Saturday, April 17, the Pioneers competed at the Meet of Champions hosted by Augustana College. Among the outstanding performances, junior Brianna Leahy won the women’s shot put and set a new school record of 14.13m (46-4.25).

Pioneer Women
In the sprint events, many ran personal best times with the warm weather conditions. Gwen Orr took third in the final heat of the 100m dash, clocking 12.37 seconds. In the 200m dash, Kayla Lipsey and Jenna Guddie ran personal best times. Lipsey ran 27.31 for ninth place, and Guddie ran 27.39 to finish in 11th place. Grace Guetschow continued to see personal best times set in the 200m dash (27.76) as well as the 100m dash (13.32)
Casey Rielly ran 15.73 seconds to take fourth place in the 100m hurdles. Katie Schilling and Jessica Buss set season best times in the 400m hurdles, running 1:05.17 (third place) and 1:05.65 (fourth place) respectively.
Setting two massive personal bests in the 1500m and 800m races, Kirstie Ramsey ran 4:55.13 to take fourth place in the 1500m and 2:24.46 to finish in seventh in the 800. Caitlin Gorge also ran a personal best time of 2:28.39 in the 800m. Placing second in the 1500m, setting a new personal best, Kaitlyn Galgon ran 4:44.17.
Lexi Richardson took fourth in the 3,000m steeplechase with a personal best time of 13:40.75. Samantha Meyer and Natalie Kreier ran their first 10,000m run, finishing in 39:56.01 and 40:26.17 respectively.
The 4 x 400m relay team of Buss, Schilling, Orr, and Galgon took fourth place in a highly competitive heat of teams. The squad ran 4:06.42 to close the race.
In the women's throwing events, Grace Daehling and Katheryn Holter threw over 22m in the javelin. Daehling threw 22.80m (74-9), and Holter threw 22.27m (73-0). Paulina Wienke placed eighth in the hammer throw, with a best mark of 41.93m (137-6) for the day. Jackie Bergschultz finished the hammer throw in ninth with a mark of 39.44m (129-4).
In addition to breaking the school record in the shot put, Brianna Leahy threw for third place in discus, marking a throw of 40.90m (134-2). Her record breaking throw puts her among the top two shot put throws in the NCAA DIII national standings.
Alexis Healey and Hannah Brooks teamed up to take third and fifth place respectively in the long jump. Healey marked a jump of 5.33m (17-6), a huge collegiate personal best. Brooks also jumped a personal best, marking a jump of 5.15m (16-10.75). In the triple jump, Kelli Schneider placed fifth with a jump of 10.66m (34-11.75). Casey Rielly and Jordan Meciej came just shy of a personal best in the pole vault, each clearing 3.32m (10-10.75).
Pioneer Men
Continuing the trend in personal bests, the Daniel Inyang qualified for finals in the 100m dash and ran a personal best time of 11.42 seconds. Cade VanHout and Josh Katers ran a pair of personal bests in the 200m dash. VanHout finished in second place with a time of 22.12 seconds, and Katers ran 22.87 seconds, dipping under 22 for the first time.
In the hurdle races, Cole Stugelmeyer ran a personal best time of 15.13 seconds to take third place in the 100m hurdles. Sean Komro nearly passed his personal best time, taking sixth in the 400m hurdles with a time of 57.68 seconds.
Alexander Walechka won discus with a mark of 52.62m (172-7). Walechka took second in the hammer throw, tossing 52.40m (171-11). Justin Eichler placed second in the discus with a mark of 49.55m (162-6) and took third in the hammer throw with a mark of 49.57m (162-7). Ben Veverka placed fifth in the discus, marking 46.43m (152-4). Veverka placed third in the shot put, throwing 14.30m 46-11). Nicholas Walechka threw 11.55m (37-10.75) in the shot put.
Jacob Erickson took sixth in the javelin, marking a throw of 41.77m (137-0), and Zach Schell took ninth place with a throw of 39.46m (129-5).
Bryce Bierman won the high jump, clearing 2.00m (6-6.75). Inyang followed up and took second place in the high jump as he cleared 1.95m (6-4.75).
In the long jump, Adam Wildman took second place with a jump of 6.75m (22-1.75). Drew Stanioch took fifth place with a jump of 6.54m (21-5.5).
Freshman Isaac Nouansacksy took second place in the pole vault, clearing 4.22m (13-10). Freshman Jacob Keller jumped 3.47m (11-4.5).
