The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's soccer team had its home opener for the 2012 season spoiled when Danica Mason of Coe College found the back of the net just 30 seconds into overtime to lead the Kohawks to a 2-1 win over the Pioneers on Tuesday.
The Pioneers (2-3) were in control of the ball for most of the contest and managed to outshoot Coe by a 9-to-5 margin. Corey Daehling put UW-Platteville ahead at the 67:54 mark when she met up with a Lindsey Harms (pictured) pass for the 1-0 lead. It was the first goal of the season surrendered by the Kohawks.
Coe (4-0-1) quickly regrouped and answered the goal, just 1:06 later, when Jenny Snook slipped through the Pioneer defense went uncontested for the equalizer.
Despite the shot and possession advantage, the Kohawks defense kept the Pioneers from the game-winning goal. As a result, the two teams went into overtime and in the extra session, Coe quickly scored the game-winning goal early into the overtime to end the contest.
Next up for the Pioneers is its WIAC opener on Saturday, Sept. 15 at 2 p.m. when they will travel to face UW-Stevens Point.
