The UW-Platteville women's soccer team scored twice in the first half and three more times in the second half en route to a 5-2 win over Ripon College.
The Pioneers (2-0) overcame overcast, drizzly and cool temperatures in the win. Sophomores Melissa Dunlavy and Sarah Eck each scored twice in the win to lead a potent UW-Platteville attack that outshot Ripon by a 24 to 8 margin. Anna Strasser had a match-high six shots in the win to lead the potent attack. Jackie Baumgart added the other goal when she scored in the 50th minute.
Eck and Dunlavy each scored their first goals in the 22nd and 33rd minutes, respectively to put UW-Platteville ahead by a 2-0 margin. Ripon got on the board in the 39th minute, but the Pioneers came back with two-straight goals in the second half to stretch the margin to 4-1.
With a three-goal lead, 4-1, Brandi Peltier of Ripon scored her second goal of the contest in the 72nd minute. The Pioneers answered the goal when Dunlavy scored her second goal of the contest in the 74th minute for the win.
The last time that the Pioneers had scored six goals when they recorded a season-high 11 against UW-Superior, last year on October 16th. Next up for UW-Platteville is its home opener against Clarke on Wednesday, Sept. 7th at 5 p.m.
