Pioneers Drop Dual to UW-Stevens Point, 33-3
The University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling team dropped a 33-3 decision to No. 28 UW-Stevens Point in its first home dual meet of the season on Thursday night inside Williams Fieldhouse.
The Pioneers lone winner on the night was junior T.J. Wunnicke at 133 pounds, who defeated the nation's second-ranked wrestler Joe Mileski, 7-3. The Dodgeville native scored a takedown in the opening minute of the match for an early 2-0 lead. Mileski escaped towards the end of the period to cut the lead to 2-1.
Wunnicke, who is ranked sixth by the NWCA, started in the down position to begin the second period. He picked up an escape and later in the period he picked up a takedown to stretch his lead to 5-1.
In the third period, Mileski chose down to start the period and cut the deficit to two, 5-3, when he scored a reversal. An escape and an accumulation of over a minute of riding time led Wunnicke to the 7-3 win.
