UW-Platteville Posts 1-3 Record at Chuck Porter Duals
The University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling team posted a 1-3 mark on Saturday at the Chuck Porter Duals hosted by Knox College. The Pioneers posted a win over Hannibal-LaGrange, 40-9 and droppped decisions to Augustana (IL), 36-6, Trine, 28-27 and Central, 36-3.
To start the day, the Pioneers' Austin Holland and Peter Crocco were the lone winners against the No. 27 Vikings of Augustana. Holland at 174 pounds won by the score of 11-4 and Crocco at 157 was victorious by the score of 8-3.
In its second dual of the day, the Pioneers took advantage of five forfeits to defeat Hannibal-La Grange. In addition to the five forfeits, heavyweight Devin Johnson posted a 15-2 major decision and at 141 pounds, Bobby Henken recorded a 35-second pin to lead UW-Platteville.
Against Trine, in the third dual of the day, the match started with three consecutive forfeits before the match would ultimately be decided on the mat. At 149, Eric Macfarland recorded a 55-second fall for the Pioneers. Trine came back with four-straight pins and a major decision. UW-Platteville returned to its winning ways when senior Matt Scott won his second match of the day with a 6-0 win at 197. Johnson registered his second win of the afternoon at heavyweight with a pin in the final seconds of the second period.
In its final match of the day, Bryant Etherton was the lone winner for the Pioneers against Central with a 5-4 decision at heavyweight.
