Galgon, Leahy ranked among the top in the nation
Platteville, Wis. – Battling adverse weather conditions, the Pioneers hosted the UW-Platteville Invitational on Saturday, April 10.
Platteville, Wis. – Battling adverse weather conditions, the Pioneers hosted the UW-Platteville Invitational. Among several other Pioneers, Kaitlyn Galgon and Brianna Leahy are now ranked among the top in the nation in their respective events, the 800m run and shot put. Teams competing in the outdoor track and field complex on Saturday, April 10 included UW-Stevens Point, UW-Oshkosh, UW-La Crosse, UW-Whitewater, Augustana, and Edgewood.
Pioneer Women
Kaitlyn Galgon won the 800m run, setting a new personal best time of 2:16.94. Galgon now sits at No. 16 in the national standings for the 800m.
Gwen Orr won the 100m dash 12.63 seconds and took fourth in the 200m dash with a time of 25.95 seconds. Grace Guetschow ran a personal best in the 100m dash, 13.48 seconds, and personal best in the 200m dash, 27.96 seconds.
Samantha Meyer in the 5,000m run took third place with a time of 19:25.91. Natalie Kreier took sixth place with 19:43.63.
Katie Schilling clocked 15.41 seconds in the 100m hurdles final heat. Schilling took third in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:06.79. Jessica Buss ran 1:07.65 in the 400m hurdles.
Casey Rielly took sixth in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.31m (10-10.25). Jordan Meciej also cleared 3.31m (10-10.25) to finish in seventh place. In the triple jump, Kelli Schneider marked 10.00m (32-9.75) to finish in sixth place.
Paulina Wienke finished in sixth place in the discus, marking 34.49m (113-2) for her best throw of the day. Grace Elvert threw 27.55m (90-5) in the javelin to finish in sixth place. In the shot put, Brianna Leahy took second place with a throw of 13.42m (44-0.5). Leahy currently is No. 7 in the national standings in the shot put.
Orr, Rielly, Kayla Lipsey, and Jenna Guddie teamed up to run the 4x100m relay in 50.69 seconds. Caitlin Gorge, Guddie, Galgon, and Buss teamed up to run the 4x400m relay to win the heat in 4:29.52.
Pioneer Men
In the 100m dash finals, Cade VanHout won the event with a time of 10.89 seconds. Josh Katers won the 200m dash, clocking 23.58 seconds. VanHout, Katers, Dane Adams, and Ryan Cherry teamed up to win the 4x100m relay.
Jacob Downing took sixth place in the 400m dash, opening his first outdoor 400m dash of the season in 50.22 seconds.
Jason Voelker and Jeffrey Smolinski ran 4:16.21 and 4:16.43 respectively in the 1500m. In the 5,000m run, Caleb Christiansen took third place with a time of 15:36.96. Riley Coulter took ninth place with a time of 15:57.14.
Jacob Rice, Cole Stugelmeyer, and Noah Nouansacksy competed in the finals of the 110m hurdles. Rice took fourth place with a time of 15.45 seconds. Stugelmeyer finished in fifth place with a time of 15.68 seconds. Nouansacksy took eighth place with a time of 17.54 seconds. In the 400m hurdles, Sean Komro finished in second place, clocking a time of 58.94 seconds.
In the high jump, Bryce Bierman and Daniel Inyang took first and fourth place respectively. Bierman jumped a personal best of 2.00m (6-6.75). Inyang also cleared a personal best bar, clearing 1.95m (6-4.75).
Isaac Nouansacksy finished in sixth place in the pole vault, clearing 4.17m (13-8.25). In the long jump, Adam Wildman finished in third place with a jump of 6.80m (22-3.75). Owen Miller jumped a personal best, 6.42m (21-0.75) to take eighth place. Weston Pink finished the triple jump in fifth place with a jump of 13.44m (44-1.25).
Walechka won the hammer throw with a toss of 52.96m (173-9), and took second place in the discus, marking 44.39m (145-8). He took fourth in the shot put with a mark of 13.40m (43-11.75).
Ben Veverka and Justin Eichler took fifth and sixth place respectively in the discus. Veverka marked 39.63m (130-0), and Eichler marked a throw of 39.07m (128-2). Eichler took second place in the hammer throw, marking a personal best throw of 52.52m (172-4).
Zach Schell threw a personal best in the javelin, 36.54m (119-10), to take sixth place.
The 4x400m relay team of Voelker, Tyler Doering, Joey Madsen, and Zach Flitsch ran 3:39.25 to take second place.
