Pioneers vs. Pointers at indoor track and field dual
Stevens Point, Wis. – The Pioneers and Pointers came together this weekend to compete at the second indoor track and field dual meet of the season. Traveling up to UW – Stevens Point, the UW – Platteville men’s and women’s track and field teams saw many improvements from the week 1 competition. For the underclassmen, the dual meet setting continues to serve as a learning opportunity.

PIONEER WOMEN
Gwen Orr won the 60m dash in a season best time of 8.02 seconds. Orr took second place in the 200m, running another season best time of 26.34 seconds. Also in the 200m dash, Jenna Guddie crossed the line in a personal collegiate best time of 27.73.
Jess Buss continued to see steadiness in the 400m dash, running 1:03.99. In the 60m hurdles, Casey Rielly took third place with 9.91 seconds. Rielly also won the pole vault event, clearing 3.22m (10-6.75).
Kaitlyn Galgon took the first lap of the 800m aggressively and closed the race to take second place with a personal collegiate best time of 2:19.27. Samantha Meyer cruised into third place among the field in the 5,000m run. Meyer ran 19:28.93, absolutely dominating her previous personal best time.
In the 4x400m relay, a team of Buss, Caitlin Gorge, Katheryn Holter, and Galgon finished the race first with a time of 4:14.56.
As for the field events, Paulina Wienke triumphed over the weight throw and shot put. Wienke won the weight throw with a lifetime best throw of 14.46m (47-5.25) and the shot put with a throw of 11.44m (37-6.5). Paige Taylor placed third in the weight throw, finishing the day with a throw of 13.31m (43-8). Throwing a lifetime best, multi-athlete Katheryn Holter finished in third place with a throw of 10.84m (35-6.75).
In the high jump, Grace Elvert cleared 1.46m (4-9.5), a season best. Freshman Alexis Healey took third place in the long jump with a personal collegiate best of 4.84m (15-10.50).
PIONEER MEN
Debuting in his first indoor meet of the season, Jacob Downing won the 200m dash decidedly with a time of 23.01. Battling for his second place finish, Cade VanHout followed Downing in the 200m dash with a time of 23.15. VanHout also won the 60m dash with a lifetime best time of 7.19 seconds. Dane Adams took second place in the 60m dash with 7.38 seconds. Dane Adams and Josh Katers continued to execute the 200m, finishing in 23.64 and 23.68 respectively.
Caleb Christiansen ran a lifetime best in the 5,000m run, 15:54.89, finishing in third place. Freshmen Riely Coulter took fourth place crossing the line with a time of 16:15.89. The 4x400m relay team of Zach Flitsch, Dane Jankiewicz, Jason Voelker, and Ryan Cherry ran in second place with a time of 3:40.05.
In the 60m hurdles, Cole Stugelmeyer finished in third place with a personal best time of 8.53. Jacob Rice tied his personal best time of 8.75. Rice saw a small improvement in the pole vault, clearing 3.82m (12-6.25). Taking first in the pole vault, freshman Isaac Nouansacksy cleared a personal best of 4.27m (14-0).
Bryce Bierman wrapped up high jump in second place with a clearance of 1.91m (6-3.25). Adam Wildman took third place in the long jump, marking a jump of 6.34m (20-9.75). Ben Veverka came within inches of his personal best in the weight throw, tossing 16.20m (53-1.75) for third place. Veverka finished in second place in the shot put with 13.54m (44-5.25).
UP NEXT
The Pioneers will return to UW – Stevens Point on Saturday, Feb. 20 for another dual indoor track and field meet. Student-athletes across event groups have their eyes on the All-Time-Top-Ten List as the season progresses. The 2021 indoor season may be short and sweet this year, as the WIAC and NCAA Championship meets have been canceled, however the Pioneers are determined to make the most of the remaining dual meets by catching excellence along the way.
