The University of Wisconsin-Platteville has tabbed a former professional softball player to guide its softball team and her last name may be familiar to Major League Baseball fans. Andie Varsho, from Chili, Wisconsin, has been selected as the next head coach of the Pioneers. She played for the Pennsylvania Rebellion in 2014. Her father, Gary, played 14 years professionally, eight of those with the Chicago Cubs.

Two members of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville softball team were honored in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for their efforts throughout the 2016 season.

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville softball team traveled to River Falls, Wisconsin to take on the UW-River Falls Falcons in doubleheader action on Saturday, where the Pioneers fell 11-0 and 10-5. The second game would be the last for the Pioneers in the 2016 season, where they finished 4-26 overall and 1-13 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

UW-Oshkosh won a tight 4-2 game over host UW-Platteville in the opener then took the second contest 8-0 in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader Friday afternoon.

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville softball team hosted the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Blugolds on Saturday and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Pointers on Sunday in a weekend full of Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action, splitting 1-1 with the Blugolds and falling 0-2 against the Pointers.

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville softball team fell to host UW-La Crosse in two games on Friday, taking them to 3-19 on the season and 0-6 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville softball team split a doubleheader with Beloit College on Thursday, losing 5-3 but taking the finale 14-12. On Saturday, the Pioneers fell to the University of Wisconsin-Stout Blue Devils 6-0 and 2-0 to put them at 3-17 overall on the season.

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville softball team traveled to Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa on Wednesday to take on the Knights in a doubleheader. The Pioneers claimed the first game 7-6, but fell 17-1 in the second game, taking their overall record to 2-12 on the season.

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville softball team defeated the Loras College Duhawks 9-0 in the first game of a doubleheader on Wednesday, and fell 12-7 in the second game of the match-up to host Loras in Dubuque, Iowa.

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville softball team competed in the PFX Spring Games in Clermont, Florida Saturday, March 19 through Wednesday, March 23, where they went 0-10 to start the season.
