Softball splits with Beloit, falls to UW-Stout
The University of Wisconsin-Platteville softball team split a doubleheader with Beloit College on Thursday, losing 5-3 but taking the finale 14-12. On Saturday, the Pioneers fell to the University of Wisconsin-Stout Blue Devils 6-0 and 2-0 to put them at 3-17 overall on the season.
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. —The University of Wisconsin-Platteville softball team split a doubleheader with Beloit College on Thursday, losing 5-3 but taking the finale 14-12. On Saturday, the Pioneers fell to the University of Wisconsin-Stout Blue Devils 6-0 and 2-0 to put them at 3-17 overall on the season.
In the second game against Beloit, the Pioneers found themselves down 5-3 heading into the top of the third. UW-Platteville logged a huge third inning, scoring seven runs off six hits to take the 10-5 lead.
After adding two more runs to their total in the top of the fourth, Beloit responded and added two runs to their score, taking the game to 12-7.
With the game locked at 14-8 after the top of the seventh inning, the Pioneers held Beloit to four runs in the bottom of the seventh, earning the last out to take the 14-12 win over Beloit.
In Saturday's games against the UW-Stout Blue Devils, the Pioneers got shutout in both, recording five hits total. The Rote sisters in senior Carley and sophomore Crystal were the lone hits in the first game, earning a double and single respectively in the 6-0 loss.
In the second game, sophomore Brooke Posey pitched a great game with bad luck, holding UW-Stout to only four hits and earning one strikeout in the loss. Pioneer Dakota Stout was the standout on the opposite side of the ball, the only Pioneer to earn two hits in the loss.
