Pioneers perform at WIAC Last Chance Indoor Track and Field Meet
Whitewater, Wis. – The Pioneers were accompanied by the seven other Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference universities at the WIAC Last Chance indoor track and field meet on March 6, 2021.
Whitewater, Wis. – The Pioneers were accompanied by the seven other Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference universities at the WIAC Last Chance indoor track and field meet on March 6, 2021. With the top 12 performers in the WIAC qualifying to the meet in each event, student-athletes took hold of the opportunity to shine one more time this indoor track and field season.
PIONEER WOMEN
Gwen Orr ran a new lifetime best in the 60m dash, running a time of 7.84 seconds in the final heat. Orr's personal best time holds her spot at No. 2 on the Pioneer All-Time Top-Ten List, sitting 0.01 seconds away from the school record. Orr finished in fourth place in the 200m dash, running a season best time of 25.94 seconds.
In the 800m run, Kaitlyn Galgon ran for second place emerging from the pack of runners with a time of 2:18.24. Galgon set a new personal best time for herself and moved up to No. 8 on the Pioneer All-Time Top-Ten List.
Samantha Meyer and Natalie Kreier ran in the 3,000m. Meyer ran a personal best time of 10:57.04, breaking the 11:00 barrier for the first time and placing ninth in the heat. Kreier ran 11:14.12.
Jess Buss, Katie Schilling, Kathryn Holter, and Galgon teamed up to run the 4 x 400m relay. The Pioneer women ran collectively a sound race, clocking 4:04.73 to place fifth among the eight relay teams.
Jordan Meciej and Casey Rielly competed in the pole vault. Meciej took seventh place with a clearance of 3.36m (11-6.25) and Rielly placed 11th with 3.21m (10-6.25).
Paulina Wienke threw for eighth place in the weight throw, marking a toss of 14.59m (47-10.5).
PIONEER MEN
Cade VanHout in the 60m dash ran 7.13 seconds. Caleb Christiansen ran 8:53.13 in the 3,000m run. Joey Madsen and Riley Coulter ran 16:30.91 and 16:38.43 respectively in the 5,000m run.
Cole Stugelmeyer ran a personal best time of 8.44 seconds in the finals of the 60m hurdles, taking fourth place overall. Jacob Rice ran a personal best time as well, 8.61 seconds in the preliminaries of the 60m hurdles.
Bryce Bierman finished in third place in the high jump, clearing 1.98m (6-6). Climbing his way to third place in the long jump, Adam Wildman marked 6.90m (22-7.75) on his final attempt. Weston Pink returned to the triple jump, marking 13.28m (43-7) for his best jump today.
In shot put, Ben Veverka threw 14.84m (48-8.25) in the finals to finish in sixth place. Justin Eichler threw 14.45m (47-5) for ninth place. Veverka qualified in the weight throw as well, and finished the day with a toss of 15.65m (51-4.25).

The UW-Platteville Pioneers look forward to outdoor track and field season, which will begin with a home track and field meet at Williams Fieldhouse on March 27.
