Pioneer Men's Soccer - 1999 Season Review

posted 11/19/98

The 1998 season has come to a close and as you take a look back this will be a season to remember. The record count is eight, that is this team now holds 10 school records. The record breaking began right from the start of the season. The Pioneers started the season 5-0, which was the best start ever for a soccer team in the 37 year history of the program. Leading the way for the record breaking season, were senior forward Brian Hagen and junior goalie Chirs Robbins. Hagen scored 22 goals and had 9 assists, for an impressive 53 point total. His 53 points, and his 22 goals ranks this season as the fourth best season for an individual in the history of the program. The three spots ahead of Hagen all belong to Jim Jianette, who is argueably the best player to ever play division III soccer. Hagen led a team whose offense was ranked as high as 16 in the nation in goals per game. He, along with freshman Matt Haberli found themselves ranked in the top 20 in the nation for both goals and points per game thoughout the season. With this high powered offense it is easy to over look the defense, but it is the defense that has been really impressive.
