Four Pioneers named All-Wisconsin in soccer, Gentilli named offensive player of year
PLATTEVILLE, Wis - The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men’s soccer team had four student-athletes honored on the 2021 All-Wisconsin State Soccer team, selected by the United Soccer Coaches. Sophomore Jack Gentilli was named Co-Offensive Player of the Year and first team All-Wisconsin. Freshman goalkeeper Chase Werner was named second team All-Wisconsin, while freshmen Lucas Schoeneberg and Konrad Ziaja were honorable mention.
PLATTEVILLE, Wis - The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team had four student-athletes honored on the 2021 All-Wisconsin State Soccer team, selected by the United Soccer Coaches. Sophomore Jack Gentilli was named Co-Offensive Player of the Year and first team All-Wisconsin. Freshman goalkeeper Chase Werner was named second team All-Wisconsin, while freshmen Lucas Schoeneberg and Konrad Ziaja were honorable mention.
Gentilli started all 20 games the Pioneers played and led them in goals (13), assists (7), points (33) and shots on goal (34). He scored two game winning goals and scored on his lone penalty kick attempt. This is Gentilli's second selection to the first team All-Wisconsin list; he was also newcomer of the year in 2019.
Werner started 17 of the 18 games he played in. He stopped 62 of the 77 shots he faced. He allowed 0.86 goals a game, while recording seven shutouts. This is Werner's first honor from the United Soccer Coaches.
Schoeneberg started all 20 games as a freshman and helped hold down the middle of the field for the Pioneers. He had two assists and 16 shots on goal.
Ziaja paired with Schoeneberg in the middle and started all 20 games. Ziaja scored one goal and had two assists on 14 shots on goal.
The Pioneers finished the year with a 13-5-2 record.
