ELMHURST, Ill. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team shutout Elmhurst University 1-0 Sunday afternoon at Langhorst Field.
The Pioneers scored the lone goal of the game in the 31st minute when a free kick taken by freshman Konrad Ziaja found junior Matt Walter to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead. The advantage held for the remainder of the contest.
The Pioneers (13-4-2) and Bluejays (8-8-2) kept things close for the day with UW-Platteville holding a slim 12-11 advantage on shots including four on goal while Elmhurst had five on frame.
Freshman Chase Werner tallied five saves for his eighth shutout of the season.
The Pioneers will return to action on Saturday, November 6 when they host UW-Eau Claire on Senior Day. The game, which starts at 1 p.m. will mark the first time in UW-Platteville history that men's soccer battles the Blugolds as UW-Eau Claire is in its first season of competition since adopting the sport.
