PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team improved to 2-2 on the season after a dominate 3-1 victory over the Central College Dutch in Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.
"This is the step in the right direction for the quality we have from this team," said Director of Soccer Sam Koenig. "We must continue to evolve and grow. We have what it takes and we are starting to figure it out!"
The Pioneers struck early Saturday afternoon when sophomore Jack Gentilli placed a perfectly arced corner kick in Central's net in the 11th minute to take a 1-0 lead.
Gentilli then added an assist to the stat sheet when he connected with freshman Clayton Mobile in the 56th minute to extend the lead to 2-0.
Sophomore Nate Staral and junior Matt Walter added some insurance in the 62nd minute when Walter's pass to Staral extended the lead to 3-0.
Central's Brant Mueller's goal in the 85th minute would dismiss the chance at a shutout, but the Pioneers would eventually emerge with the 3-1 victory.
The Pioneers held a blistering 29-9 advantage on shots with 15 on goal. Freshman keeper Chase Werner tallied four saves for the Pioneers while John Foster recorded nine saves in goal.
UW-Platteville will return to action tomorrow, Sept. 12 when they host Rockford University in Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium at 4 p.m.
