Pioneers drop season opener to MSOE
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men’s soccer team suffered a 3-1 loss to MSOE in the season opener and first competition in 669 days. Although neither the Pioneers nor Raiders found the back of the net in the first half, a two-goal stretch in less than a minute in the second half allowed MSOE to pull away for the win on Wednesday night in Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team suffered a 3-1 loss to MSOE in the season opener and first competition in 669 days. Although neither the Pioneers nor Raiders found the back of the net in the first half, a two-goal stretch in less than a minute in the second half allowed MSOE to pull away for the win on Wednesday night in Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.
The two teams combined for 15 shots in the first half but entered the second half locked 0-0. A successful penalty kick for MSOE gave the Raiders the advantage in the 50th minute and MSOE's Zach Thompson scored following a corner kick from Konrad Knap less than one minute later to extend the lead to 2-0.
The Raiders added another in the 65th minute, before the Pioneers found their way onto the scoreboard with a penalty kick by freshman Quincy Ott in the 80th minute. MSOE would hold on for the remaining ten minutes to secure the win.
Overall, the Pioneers outshot the Raiders 18-12 with 15 on goal to MSOE's eight. Junior Matt Walter led the Pioneers with four shots.
Defensively, MSOE held a 14-5 advantage in saves on the night.
The Pioneers will look to bounce back this Saturday when they travel to Collegeville, Minnesota for a 4 p.m. game against St. Johns University.
