Pioneers fall 3-2 after taking Aurora into 2OT
AURORA, Ill. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men’s soccer team suffered a 3-2 loss in double overtime at Aurora University's Spartan Stadium.

AURORA, Ill. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team suffered a 3-2 loss in double overtime at Aurora University's Spartan Stadium.
The Pioneers (6-7-2 overall) came back to send Sunday's matchup into overtime after two early goals by the Spartans (11-4-0 overall).
Aurora struck first in the 10th minute when Justin Rutherford shot one into the lover right corner with assists from teammates Salvador Garcia and Henry Zehnal. Eight minutes later, Connor Erickson was assisted by David Cahue to put the Spartans ahead 2-0.
Later in the half, junior Gabe Tovar passed to freshman Zachary Schaefer who struck and scored with a shot to the lower right corner, narrowing Aurora's lead to 2-1 by the 40-minute mark.
Sophomore Boston Riley closed the gap in the 85th minute with an unassisted goal to tie the game 2-2 and send it into overtime. In the second overtime, Aurora's Christian Duarte crossed to Matt Napolitano who clinched the game winning goal for the Spartans.
Riley had a team high three shots with all on goal for the Pioneers. Overall, the Spartans finished with a 20-12 advantage in shots with just eight on frame compared to nine on goal for the Pioneers.
Senior Nate Miller recorded five saves while Aurora's Jalen Depenbrock finished with seven saves.
The Pioneers have a quick turnaround as they return to action at Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium on Monday, Oct. 21 for the rescheduled game against Edgewood College at 6:30 p.m.
