Riley’s goal lifts Pioneers over Wartburg
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men’s soccer team (4-5-2 overall) defeated Wartburg College (3-3-2 overall) 2-1 Wednesday night in Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team (4-5-2 overall) defeated Wartburg College (3-3-2 overall) 2-1 Wednesday night in Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.
The teams played the entire night through a steady rain and entered the second half in a scoreless tie. UW-Platteville's freshman Jack Gentilli quickly scored in the 47th minute to give the Pioneers the 1-0 lead. Wartburg evened the score as Riley Close was victorious on a Wartburg penalty kick in the 67th minute.
Tied 1-1 apiece, sophomore Boston Riley scored what would be the game-winning goal, fittingly on his 20th birthday in the 73rd minute.
The Pioneers outshot the Knights 11-6 with six on frame for UW-Platteville and 3 on goal for the visitors.
Wartburg held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks while tallying ten of the total 12 fouls of the night.
In goal, senior Nate Miller recorded two saves as Wartburg's Brennon Woody tallied four.
The Pioneers return to action when they hit the road on Saturday, Oct. 5 for Augsburg College with game time set for 2 p.m.
