PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The UW-Platteville Pioneers' three-goal rally within a three-minute span proved to be too much for the Falcons of Concordia University Wisconsin (CUW) as the Pioneers won 4-3 Sunday afternoon at Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.
The Pioneers finished with a 13-6 edge in shots, including seven put on frame compared to the Falcons' three.
CUW's Nick Anweller scored first, but 20 minutes into the first half seniors Brad Strobel, Tommy Bitter, and Nick Hoklas all found the net in a three-minute window to put the Pioneers ahead 3-1. The Pioneers established momentum first with Logan Rinderknecht's assist to Strobel at the 20:17 mark. Hoklas followed up and found Bitter at 20:53 before striking a goal at the 23:20 mark.
Holding the 3-1 advantage through the half, Rinderknecht was able to bypass both CUW's Gavin Falotico and the Falcon keeper in order to line one deep into the left corner and give the Pioneers a 4-1 lead at 47:42.
It was Rinderknecht's insurance that proved to be enough against the Falcons' second half comeback attempt which included a penalty kick and then a third goal by Tyler Salvador at the 83:05 mark.
The Pioneers improved to 3-0 overall and will hit the road Friday, Sept. 14 for their next competition at Aurora University scheduled for 7 p.m.
