AUSTIN, Tex. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville's Jon Stopple was selected second team 2017 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America® Division III Men's Soccer.
Stopple, an Elkhorn, Wis. native, becomes the 25th Pioneer and second player in program history to earn Academic All-America honors. Caleb Sedlacek of men's soccer was selected third team in 2015.
In 2016, what was supposed to be Stopple's senior season, he tore his ACL the first day of preseason forcing him to miss the entire season. On track to graduate from UW-Platteville in four years it looked like Stopple's soccer career was over. Instead Stopple elected to pick up a minor, was granted a medical redshirt, and returned to Platteville this fall.
An electrical engineering major with a 4.0 G.P.A., Stopple was recently selected as a 2017 United Soccer Coaches All-District and All-Wisconsin member. He recorded nine goals on the season including four game winners. In his final two seasons at UW-Platteville, Stopple was 8-of-9 on penalty kicks, and he ends his career with 19 goals and six assists.
