The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team tied Macalaster, 0-0 in St. Paul, Minnesota on Friday night.
The Pioneers (5-1-1) outshot the host Scots by an 18 to 16 margin including seven by senior Brandon Chmiel in the tie.
The Scots (0-4-1) and the Pioneers each had opportunities for the game-winning goal in the second half. UW-Platteville goalkeeper Ian Christensen made three saves and blocked another shot in the first 13 minutes of the second half. Later in the half, Chmiel fired three shots – two of which were saved by Macalaster goalkeeper Jesse Yourish and another attempt in the 85th minute hit the post.
In the first overtime, UW-Platteville controlled the offensive attack for most of the period. Two of the shots were just above the goal and Yourish made a save on a Chmiel shot in the 100th minute. The tireless attack by UW-Platteville continued in the second overtime as a pair of Pioneer shots sailed high and the two teams settled for a tie.
The Pioneers will return to action on Sunday at noon against Augsburg, who is ranked No. 24 in this week's NSCAA/Continental Tire Division III national rankings and are ranked No. 3 in the NSCAA/Continental Tire Division III North Region rankings.
