Senior Mark Ciszewski scored twice in the second half and the University of Wisconsin-Platteville converted on multiple 1-on-1 opportunities en route to a 5-0 win to claim the College of Staten Island Fall Classic title.
To claim the title, the Pioneers (2-0) had to defeat the host institution. In the win on Saturday, Mbodje Sarr went 1-on-1 after stealing the ball and found the back of the net in the 11th minute for the early 1-0 lead.
UW-Platteville added to its lead when William Pretto scored his first collegiate goal in the 20th minute, when he crossed in a shot after a pass from Hunter McMahon.
With a 2-0 lead, Ciszewski scored his two goals both coming after receiving passes from Cameron Weess in the 50th and 72 minute, respectively. Then, in the 84th minute, Austin Klemm picked up his first goal as a Pioneer with a breakaway set up by fellow newcomer Ahren Baumann.
The Pioneer offense dominated the match with a 17 to 6 advantage and goalkeeper Ian Christensen had to make just one save for his first shutout of the season.
Next, UW-Platteville will travel to the University of Dubuque on Wednesday, Sept. 5 at 7 p.m. before they host Cornell College on Saturday at 6 p.m. in its home opener.
