Pioneer cross country compete in the Drews/Neubauer Invitational
Ettrick, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin – Platteville cross country team ran in the Drews/Neubauer Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 19. Over 20 teams showed up for the men’s and women’s races, making for a competitive race among over 300 runners despite the rainy conditions.

Finishing first for the Pioneer women's cross country team, senior Caitlyn Ifft ran in at 62nd place overall with a time of 24:00.7. Ifft set a season best time by nearly 20 seconds. Junior Brenna Kautz crossed the finish line in 24:53.2, placing 102nd overall.
Kaitlyn Galgon followed finishing in third for the Pioneers. Galgon placed 114th overall with a time of 25:02.6. Senior Anna Drazkowski completed the 6,000m race in 26:27.5, becoming the Pioneer's fourth runner. Rounding off the team score as the Pioneer's fifth runner, Kirstie Ramsey ran 27:04.7.
Other notable performances included seniors Claudia De Valk and Haley Daniels. De Valk battled her way to a personal best time of 27:16.6. Daniels was the Pioneer's seventh runner, completing the run in 28:24.0. The Pioneer women's cross country team placed 16th as a team among 22 teams in all.
For the Pioneer men's cross country team, senior Zach Klokow led the way crossing in 11th place with a time of 25:23.4. Sophomore Jacob Harland was the second runner for the Pioneers. Harland finished in 71st place overall, running a new personal record time of 26:26.0.
Lars Hay continued to run consistently with a group of Pioneers including Jason Voelker, Ben Trihey, and Jarod Baker. Hay ran 27:32.7 and finished in 163rd among the 394 runners. Voelker finished 5 runners later in 168th place, running 27:34.2.
Trihey was the Pioneers' fifth runner, completing the 8,000m race in 27.45.2. Baker and Evan Krug finished close behind in 184th and 185th place respectively. Baker ran in at 27:48.7, and Krug ran 27:49.
As a team, the men's cross country team took 15th among the 21 teams. The Pioneers will travel to UW-Oshkosh next week Friday before ramping up for the WIAC Cross Country Championships hosted at Cole Acres Golf Course in Cuba City by UW-Platteville on Saturday, Nov. 2.
