Klokow takes third at Blugold Invitational
Colfax, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin – Platteville men’s and women’s cross country team competed at the Blugold Invitational on Friday, Oct. 4. Hosted by UW-Eau Claire, the event included 29 teams in the men’s 8,000m race and 27 teams in the women’s 6,000m race. As a team, the Pioneer men finished 13th and the Pioneer women finished 15th. All eight of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference teams were present.

Hosted by UW-Eau Claire, the event included 29 teams in the men's 8,000m race and 27 teams in the women's 6,000m race. As a team, the Pioneer men finished 13th and the Pioneer women finished 15th. All eight of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference teams were present.
For the Pioneer men, senior Zach Klokow cruised in at third place among a field of 446 runners. Klokow finished in 25:06.1. Finishing in the top 100 runners of the meet were junior Nick Hein and sophomore Jacob Harland. Hein crossed in 93rd place with a time of 26:42.0, setting a new personal best, and Harland followed in 94th place with a time of 26:42.1.
Evan Krug and Ben Trihey rounded off the Pioneers' top five, both running personal best times. Krug finished in 27:09.1 and Trihey was right behind finishing with a time of 27:11.5.
Other notable finishes came from Lars Hay, Jason Voelker, and Jarod Baker. Hay ran 27:24.5 for 172nd place. Voelker finished in 185th place with a time of 27:31.9. On Voelker's heels, Baker ran in at 188th place with a time of 27:32.8.
For the UW-Platteville women, junior Brenna Kautz finished first for the Pioneers. Out of the 343 runners, Kautz crossed the finish line in 69th place with a new personal best time of 24:07.5. Senior Caitlyn Ifft finished in 24:21.8 for 90th place.
The Pioneers' third runner was Kaitlyn Galgon, who took 112th place in 24:44.0. Senior Anna Drazkowski ran a season best of 26:07.7 for 182nd. Following in close behind was Kirstie Ramsey in 190th, crossing in 26:18.7 and setting a new personal best.
Other notable finishes came from seniors Haley Daniels and Claudia De Valk. Daniels ran a personal best time of 26:44.3. De Valk finished also with a new personal best time of 27:25.3.
Freshman Jenna Guddie continued the personal best trend running 29:02.7, as did Kat Salis running 29:07.1. Sophomore Katie Ganzer crossed the finish line in 32:21.2.
Next up for the Pioneers, the cross country team will travel down the road to Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa to compete on Friday, Oct. 11.
