Pioneers Down Dubuque At Home Tuesday Night
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville volleyball team (16-5) earned its first home victory of the season by defeating Dubuque (9-12) by a score of 3-1 on Tuesday night inside the Williams Fieldhouse.
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville volleyball team (16-5) earned its first home victory of the season by defeating Dubuque (9-12) by a score of 3-1 on Tuesday night inside the Williams Fieldhouse.
UW-Platteville and Dubuque traded points for much of the first set, until a five-point run put the Pioneers in front by seven late. Three kills from freshman Kierney McDonald capped the opening set victory for the Pioneers by a score of 25-18. In the second set, Dubuque rallied from an early deficit and held a five-point advantage late. UW-Platteville was able to get back within two, but the Spartans closed out a 25-20 set two win with three consecutive points. The Pioneers took an early five-point lead in set three, but a seven-point run for Dubuque saw the lead change hands. UW-Platteville answered with a 6-1 run to regain the lead which helped the hosts claim the third set by a score of 25-20. Set four continued to feature back-and-forth play, but with the score even at 21, the Pioneers scored the final four points to win the match.
Emma Carlson led the four Pioneers in double figures with 17 kills, posting a double-double in the process by adding 12 digs. Camryn Johnston tallied 12 kills, while McDonald and Madilyn Schultz each finished with 11 kills. Freshman Bri Gartner recorded a game-high 20 digs while senior Sam Rossetti totaled 48 assists. UW-Platteville finished with 10 block assists, with McDonald leading the way with three.
The Pioneers remain at home on Friday night, as they host UW-La Crosse at 7 p.m. for Yell Night.
