Kirchner and Schmidt Earn All-WIAC Honors; Kolb Named to All-Sportsmanship Team
The University of Wisconsin-Platteville’s Stephanie Kirchner and Jennifer Schmidt were selected all-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) by the league coaches on Thursday.
MADISON, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville's Stephanie Kirchner and Jennifer Schmidt were selected all-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) by the league coaches on Thursday.
Kirchner is the first Pioneer in program history to earn All-WIAC first team accolades three years. The senior from Sussex, Wis. ranked second in the conference with a .319 hitting percentage and added 292 kills and 179 digs. She ends her stellar career ranked in the top 10 of the school's all-time list in kills, attack percentage, digs and block assists; and also is the third Pioneer to end her career with over 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs.
Schmidt was named honorable mention all-WIAC and led the Pioneers with 342 kills. She averaged 2.74 kills per set and added 52 blocks and 84 digs. The sophomore from Heron Lake, Minn. recorded a season-best 21 kills against Carroll University on Sept 6. Schmidt tallied double-digit kills in four of the last five games of the season.
Junior Sarah Kolb was named to the conference All-Sportsmanship Team for her display of exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season.
