Pioneers Win 13th Straight at Home
The University of Wisconsin-Platteville volleyball team rallied from a 24-19 deficit in the first set with seven-straight points for a 26-24 victory and took the second and third sets by a 25-20, 25-13 margin on Friday night at Williams Fieldhouse.
UW-Platteville (9-5, 1-1 WIAC) extended its home winning streak to 13 in a row with the win. Emily Kaiser and LeeAnn Mizgalski led the attack with 12 and 10 kills, respectively.
UW-Stout (3-10, 0-2 WIAC) jumped out to a 5-0 advantage and held a 24-19 until back-to-back kills by the Pioneers' Stephanie Kirchner and Emily Kaiser cut the deficit to 24-21. The Pioneers continued the comeback and benefited from four Blue Devil attack errors as well as a bad set to take the opening set by a 26-24 margin.
The two teams went back and forth in the second set with neither team able to sustain a lead until a five-point spurt by the Pioneers put UW-Platteville up 17-12. To spark the spurt, Briana Kaiser and Ali Sikic combined on a block to put UW-Platteville ahead 13-12.
With a two-set lead, the Pioneers raced out to an 8-3 advantage to prompt a UW-Stout timeout. UW-Platteville extended the lead to 15-7 which forced the Blue Devils to utilize their final timeout of the set. The Blue Devils would get no closer than eight as the Pioneers outhit UW-Stout by a .407 to a -.028 margin to secure the victory.
The Pioneers return to action on Saturday at noon when they host UW-River Falls at Williams Fieldhouse on Alumni Day.
