Three Pioneers advance to title match as 11 place at Augsburg Invite
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling team competed at the Augsburg University Invitational on Saturday, held at Si Melby Hall. Eight Pioneers won titles in the Gold division and three won titles in the Freshman division.

Senior Isaac Wiegel (125), who is named on the Contender list of the most recent national rankings, was one of three Pioneers to take silver at the invite. The veteran Pioneer advanced to the first place match by 6-5 decision and took second after a hard fought 3-2 decision in favor of Southwest Minnesota State's Jackson Stauffacher.
Junior Brock Parker (149) outscored his opponents 30-9 in the first three bouts to advance to the championship match. Parker, who is also listed on the most recent national Contender list, suffered his only loss of the day to Upper Iowa's Eric Faught after a 9-4 decision in the championship match.
Sophomore Brandon Tessau (184) was the third Pioneer to take home silver. Tessau advanced to the championship round via bye, injury default, a sudden victory 7-5 decision and took second place following a medical forfeit in the final match of the day.
Also finishing in the top five was freshman Tyler Hannah (197). Hannah is ranked #10 nationally in the most recent national polls and defeated Upper Iowa's Bodie Garnier 8-2 and conference opponent Marcus Orlandoni of UW-La Crosse 8-3 in the quarterfinal. Luther's Donovan Corn won by 5-1 decision to set Hannah up against Augsburg's Bentley Schwanebeck-Ostermann in the 3rd place match. The Augie won 5-3 for the Pioneer to take home the 4th place finish.
Seniors Jacob Sklenar (184) and Max Schmitz (197) also finished in the top five. Sklenar won his final three matches by medical forfeit, a fall (1:34) over Nebraska Wesleyan's Drake Stuhr and 8-3 decision over his teammate Alex Witt. Schmitz also won his last three matches by outscoring his opponents 17-4 before pinning Southwest Minnesota State's Dillon McEachran (4:19) in the 5th place match.
Finishing off the top-five placements was freshman Jacob Seward (184). The Pioneer advanced to the 5thplace match after a 7-2 win in the semifinals and pinned opponent Ross Meskimen of Concordia Moorhead (5:56).
Up next, the Pioneers will open WIAC competition at UW-Stevens Point on Thursday, December 2.
