Pioneer Head Coach Chris Walter Picks Up Career Win Number 100 and 101 at Concordia Duals
University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling head coach Chris Walter picked up his 100 and 101st career wins on Saturday with victories over Concordia University (Wisconsin), 35-9 and University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, 28-14. The Pioneers tied University of Chicago, 18-18 with the Maroons winning by tiebreaker.
To start the day, the Pioneers won eight of 10 matches for the 35-9 win over host Concordia University (Wisconsin). In the dual meet victory, the Pioneers got pins from T.J. Wunnicke at 133, Austin Holland at 174 and Matt Scott at 285. The falls by Wunnicke and Holland both came in the first period. Also, in the win, Peter Crocco posted a 14-5 major decision victory for UW-Platteville.
Against the Maroons of the University of Chicago, Wunnicke picked up his second fall of the day at the 2:13 mark of the first period. Brett Phillips recorded his first pin of the season, 16 seconds into the third period. At 125, Mack Drees picked up his second win of the day with a 7-1 win and Matt Scott also won his second match of the day by a 10-7 decision.
To close out the day, the Pioneers defeated WIAC counterpart, UW-Eau Claire, 28-14. Wunnicke recorded his third-straight first period pin at 133 to close out the day with a 3-0 mark. Also raising his record to 3-0 on the day was Mack Drees, at 125, who picked up a forfeit win. Austin Holland, at 174, recorded a 14-2 major decision to finish the day with a 2-1 mark. Other key matches in the victory for the Pioneers was a 4-3 win at 141 by Emeric Williams and a pin by Rob Maertz at 157.
Next, the Pioneers will return to Mequon for the Concordia Open on Saturday, November 19th.
