Pioneers stumble on the road

UW-Stevens Point handed visiting UW-Platteville a 77-59 setback Wednesday in Berg Gymnasium.

Stacia Nemitz scored 21 points, and Charity Stotmeister 16 for the Pioneers, who fell to 12-12 overall and 5-10 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Britta Petersen led the Pointers (19-5, 11-4 WIAC) with 24 points, while Christin Coles came off the bench to score 12.

Coles had five points during a 10-0 run to end the first half for UWSP. The Pioneers were within 23-22 before the Pointers ended with the 10 straight points. UWP shot 55 percent in the second half but could not make up the deficit.

The Pioneers will salute seniors Dru Schneider, Stotmeister and Nemitz prior to their last game of the season Saturday. UWP plays host to UW-River Falls at 4 p.m.
