Pioneers fall at UW-L

UW-La Crosse handed visiting UW-Platteville its first Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference loss Saturday, beating the Pioneers 68-51.

The Pioneers led 16-15, but the Eagles closed the first half with a 26-11 run for a 41-27 lead. UW-L led by as many as 29 at 66-37.

Stacia Nemitz scored 15, and Charity Stotmeister 11 for the Pioneers, who fell to 7-2, 2-1. Dru Schneider had 9s in both points and rebounds for UWP, who shot just 25 percent from the field.

Stacie Van Handel led four Eagles in double figures, coming off the bench to score 15 points. Dana Churchill had 14 points, while Danielle Frank had 12 points and 16 rebounds. Taylor Larson added 11 for UW-L, who improved to 6-4, 1-3.

The Pioneers are off next week for finals, then play at Concordia (Wis.) Dec. 21.
