Charity Stotmeister made the game-winning basket, and Ashley Wolf sealed the victory with two free throws, lifting visiting UW-Platteville to an 80-77 win at UW-Superior Saturday.

Stotmeister's layup with 20 seconds left gave the Pioneers a 77-76 lead. Wolf then rebounded a missed Yellowjacket shot, was fouled, and sank two free shots with five seconds left for an 80-77 advantage. Superior missed a long three-point attempt at the buzzer.

The Pioneers halted a five-game skid with their first win of 2010. Coach Tina Kuhle's club improved to 10-8 overall and 3-6 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Yellowjackets fell to 6-11, 2-7.

The Pioneers led 43-40 at the half, but the Yellowjackets pulled ahead 64-57 midway through the second period. Wolf then had six points, and Stacia Nemitz two in an 8-1 run, bringing the visitors within 65-64. Wolf's two free throws with 4:14 remaining gave the Pioneers a 69-68 lead, and the teams went back-and-forth down the stretch.

Nemitz led the Pioneers with 20 points, while Wolf and Stotmeister each scored 17, and Claire Poad had 12.

Hailey Hart scored 25, and Bri Davis totaled 23 to pace UW-Superior.

The Pioneers are back in action Saturday in a home doubleheader with the men's team against UW-La Crosse on Alumni Day. The women's alumni game is at 10 a.m., and the men's at 11 a.m. The UWP women face the Eagles at 3 p.m. with the men to follow.
