Pioneers tipped by #21 SNC

Rachel Hermus converted a three-point play with 16.2 seconds left, helping 21st-ranked St. Norbert hold off UW-Platteville 61-58 in the first round of the AmericInn Classic at Wartburg College Tuesday.

Hermus converted a layup and a free throw, giving the Green Knights a 59-57 lead. The Pioneers' Stacia Nemitz made one of two free throws with 3.8 seconds remaining, but SNC's Stefanie Bundy made two with three seconds left to clinch the win.

The Green Knights, who have already defeated WIAC teams UW-La Crosse, UW-Eau Claire, and UW-Oshkosh, improved to 6-1. The Pioneers fell to 8-3.

Seniors Nemitz (13 points), Charity Stotmeister (11), and Dru Schneider (10) led the Pioneers in scoring, while freshmen Claire Poad and Liz Lawinger each scored 8.

Bundy led SNC with 17 points, while Hermus added 16.

The game, tied at 25 at the half, featured nine ties and 17 lead changes.

The Pioneers will play in the third-place game Wednesday at 1 p.m. against Augsburg.
