Pioneers beat Ripon, advance to title game

UW-Platteville used a hot second half to beat Ripon 80-67 and advance to the championship of the Dunn's Sporting Goods Tip-Off Tournament at Wisconsin Lutheran College Friday.

Leading 37-34 at the half, the Pioneers made 10 of their first 15 shots in the second period to open up the lead against the Red Hawks. UWP's margin reached double digits at 61-51 on Claire Poad's jump shop, and Ripon never came closer than seven again.

Dru Schneider led the Pioneers with 19 points and 7 rebounds, while the freshman Poad totaled 16 points, 9 rebounds. Charity Stotmeister added 14 points, and Stacia Nemitz and Kaitlyn Pustina each had 11 for the Pioneers, who finished the game shooting 51 percent overall.

Ashley Meister scored 19 points, and Erin Lind had 17 points and a game-high 11 rebounds for the Red Hawks (0-1).

The 2-0 Pioneers play in the championship game Saturday at 3 p.m. vs. Northland International.
