Posted November 28, 2009

UW-Platteville scored the game's first 15 points and beat Central College 85-56 Saturday morning on Bo Ryan Court.

The Pioneers held the Dutch to 0-13 from the field in starting the contest, and the scoring margin never dipped under double figures. UWP led 41-20 at the half.

The vistitors from Iowa came within 16 twice in the second half (55-36 and 60-44) but each time the Pioneers answered with a three-point basket. Kaitlyn Pustina had the first one, and Ashley Wolf the second. UWP led by as many as 33 in the latter stages of the game.

"This was really a big game for us," said Wolf, one of five Pioneers in double figures, "especially after the game in Dubuque (Tuesday) where we came away with a loss. We really wanted to come out and make a statement and put the hammer down."

Charity Stotmeister led the 4-1 Pioneers with 21 points, while Clare Poad had 11, and Wolf, Stacia Nemitz, and Liz Lawinger each scored 10.

Alyssa Scwhartz led 1-4 Central with 18 points off the bench, while Kelsey Schuring scored 21.

All 15 Pioneers played with 12 scoring. Coach Tina Kuhle played no one more than 28 minutes, as UWP tried to stay fresh for its attacking defense.

"It's extremely important because everyone gets really tired really easily," Wolf said. "Communication is very big because everyone has to rotate. We did a nice job today."
