Pointers clinch vs. Pioneers

UW-Platteville ended its 2008-09 season with an 84-63 loss at UW-Stevens Point Saturday, as the eighth-ranked Pointers clinched the undisputed Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title.

The Pointers improved to 22-3 overall and 14-2 in the WIAC, while the Pioneers finished 8-16, 5-11.

Stacia Nemitz poured in a career-high 23 points, while Charity Stotmeister scored 16, and Ashley Callahan 12 for the Pioneers. Nemitz's 11-11 performance from the line tied her with current assistant Lisa Wubben for the second-highest free throws made in a perfect outing. Crystal Stietz was 14-14 against UW-Eau Claire in 2002.

Britta Peterson made nine of 11 from the floor and finished with 20 points for UWSP. Ashley Baker added 14, Janelle Van Gomple 11, and Jessi Sporle 10 for the Pointers, who led 40-28 at the half. The closest the Pioneers came in the second period was 48-41.
