Quick start carries Stout

UW-Stout scored the game's first nine points and went on to beat UW-Platteville 73-52 Saturday on Bo Ryan Court.

The Blue Devils extended the 9-0 lead to 43-21 at the half over the Pioneers, who made just four first-half baskets. UWP came out stronger in the second half, cutting the deficit as low as 47-36 on a pair of Lisa Grantman foul shots. Megan Maslowski made a layup, and Danielle DeWitt fouled with a three-point basekt, restoring a 16-point advantage. The Pioneers came no closer than 52-40 the rest of the way.

Stacia Nemitz recorded her first career double-double for the Pioneers, scoring 14 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Brianna Klaas added 11 points for the Pioneers, who fell to 4-8 overall and 1-3 in the WIAC.

Julia Hirssig paced Stout (8-5, 3-1) with her sixth double-double of the season with 27 points and 10 rebounds. Charlee Edwards added 10 points, while Lindsey Gerber had nine points and a game-high six assists.

The game will be shown on Fox Sports Net Wisconsin Saturday, Jan. 10 at 3 p.m.

The Pioneers return to action Wednesday at UW-Oshkosh, then face UW-Stevens Point at home Saturday at 5 p.m. in the second game of a doubleheader with the men's team.
