Pioneers fall to 5-0 Simpson

November 29, 2008

Perhaps it was a third straight weekend of a long bus trip. Perhaps it was just a cold shooting night. Perhaps it was playing undefeated Simpson. Or most likely, it was a combination of all three.

Simpson College overwhelmed UW-Platteville 89-54 in the second day of the State Farm Tournament, hosted by Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa.

The Storm improved to 5-0 by leading from start to finish over the Pioneers, making their third bus trip of at least five and one-half hours. UWP, which played the previous weekends in St. Louis and Tyler, Texas, fell to 2-4.

Charity Stotmeister scored 12 points, and Ashley Callahan scored 10 for the Pioneers, who made just 32 percent from the field, including 4-19 of three-point attempts.

Stotmeister earned all-tournament honors for her all-around play in the two tournament games.

Carrie Larson, Amy Hamilton, and Stacy Schutjer each scored 12 for Simpson, who made 44.4 percent from the floor and all 17 free throws. The Storm led 49-30 at the half.

The bus rides continue for the Pioneers, who play Silver Lake Tuesday in Manitowoc and at UW-Superior Saturday.
