Warhawks topple Pioneers

UW-Whitewater forced 28 UW-Platteville turnovers and beat the Pioneers 69-50 Wednesday in Williams Fieldhouse.

Behind that pressure defense, the Warhawks converted those turnovers into 29 points while improving to 11-4 overall and 4-2 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Pioneers, who forced 20 tunrovers but converted them into just 11 points, fell to 8-7, 2-4.

UWW steadily pulled away from a 26-24 halftime lead. The Warhawks led 35-32, then went on a 7-1 run, taking a 42-33 lead on Lindsey Buechner's layup with 11:22 remaining. The Pioneers were still within eight points at 56-48, but the Warhawks closed the game with a 13-2 run, with Tiffany Morton scoring six of those points.

Buechner scored 15, and Morton 14 while Trisha Thill added 11 for UWW.

Liz Tesch was the lone Pioneer in double figures with 15 points, while Vanessa Nemitz hit three straight three-point shots midway through the first half for nine points. Liz Wisdom added eight points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots.

The game will be shown on Fox Sports Net North Jan. 22 at 7:30 p.m.
