Pioneers fall at UWSP

UW-Stevens Point used critical scoring runs to open both halves while defeating visiting UW-Platteville 69-51 Wednesday in Berg Gymnasium.

The Pointers began the game with a 19-4 run before the Pioneers answered with an 18-3 streak, cutting the deficit to 24-22. UWSP led 32-26 at the break then began with the second half with another 13-3 run, breaking the contest open. The Pioneers never were able to get within 15 the rest of the way.

The Pointers improved to 13-3 overall, including a perfect 10-0 at home, and 5-3 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Pioneers slipped to 8-9, 2-6.

UWSP's Laura Neuenfeldt led all scorers with 18 points, hitting three three-point shots, while Chelsea Kranz had 11 points and Haley Houghton 10.

The Pioneers' Lisa Grantman scored 12 points, all on three-point shots, while Liz Tesch added 10. Liz Wisdom recorded eight rebounds, while Lisa Wubben had seven to help the Pioneers become just the second team to out-rebound the Pointers, 41-38.
