Pioneers shoot down Yellowjackets

Lisa Wubben scored a career-high 23 points, and UW-Platteville made a season-best nine three-point baskets, propelling the Pioneers past UW-Superior 62-53 Saturday in Williams Fieldhouse.

The Pioneers improved to 8-6 overall and 2-3 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, while the Yellowjackets fell to 5-7, 0-5.

Wubben made 4-5 three-point shots, leading the Pioneer shooters and topping her old career best by two points. Lisa Grantman added 12 points and three assists.

Katie Moench topped the Yellowjackets with 11 points, which is 7.5 under her league-leading average. Breanna Herzog came off the bench to score 10 points before fouling out early in the second half. Kaleigh Day led all rebounders with 11.

The Pioneers led 30-27 at the half then broke the game open with back-to-back three-point baskets by Grantman and Wubben, giving them a 54-41 lead. UWS never cut the lead to under 10 until the final minute.

UW-Platteville plays host to UW-Whitewater Wednesday at 7 p.m. in a game that will be taped and shown on Fox Sports Net.
