Preiner, Falcons beat UWP

Melanie Preiner's fast start helped UW-River Falls win its fifth straight women's basketball game, as the Falcons defeated host UW-Platteville 61-48 Saturday on Bo Ryan Court.

Preiner made her first three three-point attempts and had an assist on another basket, lifting the Falcons to an 11-2 start. UWRF eventually went up 17-3 led 36-24 at the half. The Pioneers could get no closer than 11 points in the second half.

Preiner led all scorers with 18 points, 16 coming in the first half, four assists and seven rebounds. Traci Reimann added 12 points and 13 rebounds, while Krista Cordes had 11 points for the Falcons (14-8, 8-5 WIAC).

Lisa Grantman paced the Pioneers (8-13, 2-10) with 12 points, while Lisa Wubben had 11 and Vanessa Nemitz 10. Liz Tesch added eight rebounds, while Liz Wisdom had seven rebounds and three blocked shots.
