Blugolds beat Pioneers with late run

UW-Eau Claire used a 12-0 run, turning a 44-43 deficit into a 55-44 lead, to beat host UW-Platteville 59-51 Saturday on the newly dedicated Bo Ryan Court.
Heather Witt's three-point basket with 9:59 remaining started the run and gave the Blugolds the lead for good. Five different players scored during the streak that ended with Liz Tesch's inside move with 6:14 remining.
Another Tesch basket cut the Blugold lead to 55-47, but two free throws with Michelle Burns and a jumper by Ashley Anderson put the game away.
The Blugolds improved to 13-7 overall and 7-4 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, while the Pioneers fell to 8-11, 2-9.
Brittanni Hakanson paced the Blugolds with 11 points, while teh 5-7 Witt had eight points, eight rebounds and four assists.
Tesch dominated inside the for the Pioneers, making 10-12 from the field to finish with 23 points, one shy of her career high. Fellow post player Liz Wisdom had nine points and seven rebounds.
