#14 Blue Devils pull away

UW-Stout, ranked 14th in the latest D3hoops.com poll, pulled away from a 34-31 halftime lead to beat UW-Platteville 84-65 Saturday in Johnson Fieldhouse in Memononie.

The Blue Devils, now 16-3 overall, retained first place in the in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with an 8-1 record. The Pioneers slipped to 8-10, 2-7.

UW-Stout shot 60.6 percent in the second half and scored 50 points, making 20 of 33 shots from the field and 11-14 from the line in the final 20 minutes. The Blue Devils played 19 people, compared to the Pioneers' eight healthy players who saw action.

Lisa Grantman made four three-point baskets for the second straight game for the Pioneers, while Liz Tesch knocked down all eight of her free throw attempts, enabling both players to score 18 points. Freshman guard Megan Guernsey added 11.

Savanah Oeltjen came off the bench to make 5-6 from the field and 6-6 from the line to lead Stout with 16 points. All-American center Kelsey Duoss added 15 points and eight rebounds, while Lindsey Geissler had 13.
