Pioneers come up short vs. Falcons

UW-River Falls scored six straight points during a crucial three-minute span then held off UW-Platteville 50-47 Saturday night.

The Pioneers took a 40-38 lead on two Holly Kaiser free throws with 3:25 remaining, but were held without a point for the next 2:58. The Falcons' Miranda Biteler gave the Falcons a 41-40 lead won a three-point basket with 2:217 to play, then UWRF made 9-10 free throws down the stretch.

UWP battled back within 48-47 with six seconds to play on two Emily Adrian free throws, but Biteler answered with a pair of free shots of her own. Adrian's game-tying three-point shot missed at the buzzer.

The Falcons improved to 11-11 overall and 7-6 in the WIAC, while the Pioneers fell to 9-11, 5-7.

Kaiser and Liz Tesch each scored 12 points to pace the Pioneers, while Biteler led all scorers with 15.

The Pioneers play at UW-La Crosse Wednesday at 5:30 p.m., then play host to UW-Superior Saturday at 1 p.m.
