Pioneers fall to UW-La Crosse, 60-56

UW-La Crosse remained the lone undefeated women's basketball team in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with a 60-56 victory at UW-Platteville Wednesday night.

The Pioneers, who trailed 25-21 at the half, took what turned out to be their lone second-half lead at 33-32 on Liz Tesch's layup. The Eagles answered with a 14-2 run, with Sarah Stachula scoring six points during that span to give UW-L a 46-35 lead with 8:43 remaining.

UWP climbed back within 58-56 on Abby Lalko's rebound basket with seven seconds remaining, but Stachula made two more free throws with 5.7 seconds left to seal the game.

The Eagles improved to 8-0 overall and 3-0 in the WIAC, while the Pioneers fell to 4-4, 1-1.

Stachula led all scorers with 14 points, while Ashley Wagner had 11 and Abby Johnson 10 for the Eagles.

Holly Kaiser paced the Pioneers with 12 points, while Michelle Hardyman had 10, and Lisa Grantman recorded seven points and nine rebounds.
